Why We Create: The Human Need for Artistic Expression

As an artist, I’ve often asked myself, why do we create?
What is it that compels us to turn thoughts into images, emotions into color, silence into form?
Art, I believe, is not just a skill or profession, it’s a human necessity.
From the earliest cave paintings to contemporary canvases, the urge to express has always been with us. It’s how we process the world, how we tell stories, how we remember, and most importantly, how we feel.
Creating art allows us to externalize what’s internal. It gives shape to what we often can’t articulate in words, grief, joy, longing, hope. It becomes a form of communication that transcends language, time, and culture.
For me, painting is a journey inward.
Every brushstroke is a step closer to understanding something deeper, about myself, about the human soul, about the unseen. I don’t create to impress. I create to connect, with others, and with something far greater than myself.
And in that process, I’ve come to believe: we create because we must.
Because within the act of creating, we remember who we truly are.
